Isn't he old?

Sorry to my readers. I didn't intend to go on hiatus but that is what happened. I've been really busy lately with the company I started and also with leaving my real job to be a freelancer (and run the company I started) and there just hasn't been much to blog for me.

But there was a development last week, my husband broke the news to me in a conversation that went almost exactly like this:

"So it would seem that all the outfield slots are filled"

"You mean filled by Jeff. Or filled without Jeff?"

"The Angeles signed a new centerfielder today."

"Who"

"Steve Finley" [edited because it has been brought to my attention that Chuck Finley and Steve Finley are not the same, except that they are both old]

[pause] "Isn't he old?"

"Formerly of the Dodgers."

"Isn't he old?"

"He hit that great game-winning home run."

"Isn't he old?"

"He's a power hitter, very athletic."

"I really thought he was old."

"Sure, some people think he's old. But who's to say what's old? You are only as old as you feel!"

"But isn't he like 40? Isn't that just plain old?"

"Who's to say Maya, who's to say?"

"I say that is old!"

This is my guess: The Angels felt they needed to bring in some veteran leadership what with Percy and Glaus leaving. I also wonder if they see Erstad as some sort of trade bait since we know they are hot for Casey. This would leave them without a lot of leadership. Or should I say, without a lot of veteran english-speaking leadership. I imagine that must be important when building a team these days, having some Spanish-speaking and English-speaking leadership spread around the field.

Jeff might be a solid player and a great value. But he isn't leadership guy right now. So I'm sticking with the theory that they were buying a veteran guy, not a nearly-over-the-hill centerfielder.

Or, this is just further proof that the Angels are secret Jeff-haters. His name was not mentioned among the possible DH candidates.

Are we placing bets on whether Jeff plays more or less games in CF next year than this year?
